Message from the President

Season's Greetings to all MDXA members and from my family to yours, we wish you a happy Holiday Season and hope that you find many "new ones" for your log book in the coming months as we approach the new millennium

We continue to have great success with our club callsign in the contests. We usually score very well in all the contests that we have entered. Thanks to Ray, WQ5L, for being the "main man" at the contest site!

This year we also experienced our FIRST Club FD using the K5MDX call. Many thanks to Bill, K5YG, for running this and despite all the terrible weather and Murphy's presence throughout the event I think everyone had a great time and are looking forward to 2000.

Also in October for the CQWW DX Phone Contest many of us went to Dauphin Island AL and operated as W4D. We all had a great time and many thanks to Ernie, W5OXA for putting this all together. It was great to have the Alabama Branch of the MDXA there to help us with this project. We are looking forward to returning to Dauphin Island next July for the IOTA contest and using K5MDX/4 as call.

On our web page we have added many new sorters database which sure helps in the administration of the W5 Bureau.

This year we have added more new members to our fine club and hope that all you "old timers" will welcome them. They all have been a very positive addition to our group.

This year George, K5JZ, has established a full-time internet connection to help with the spots on K5JZ node.

Gary, W5FI, had a very fine DXpedition to Gibraltar and gave out a new one to many on RTTY and other modes/bands. THANK YOU Gary!

This year our attendance at the New Orleans International DX Convention was down to just 8 attendees, but we all had a good time.. Sad to report that it was the last one of these. We sure had a great time at these DX meetings!

Our club has several members who have developed serious medical problems this past year. I hope we all will keep them in our prayers. We wish them all a full and speedy recovery.

This year we also have had some more MDXA members make the DXCC Honor Roll. That is a life time achievement award and a great honor. Congratulations to all who made it!

With the rise in Solar Flux it appears the good days of DXing are again here. Enjoy the high numbers and great propagation. I hope that you find many many new ones in your log book this year!
